How to remove engine cover on 2011 Jetta MKVI 2.5L

So the engine cover on a MKVI Jetta should all be the same. In order to get to the air filter, spark plugs, coil packs, etc., the engine cover needs to come off. I made a quick video showing how I did it.

The engine cover should come off without too much trouble. I was careful and tried it a few times before I made the video. The only thing you should worry about is the vacuum air tube for that leads from the front grill to the air box that attaches to the engine cover. I used vice grips in order to loosen the clamp enough to disassemble it from the engine cover/air box. I had to be extremely careful with this part. Once I removed it with vice grips and uncoiled it to let it rest, it was extremely difficult to get back on, and somewhat dangerous because of the tension needed to get it to clear the main air intake.

In my next post I’ll explain how to replace the air filter once the cover is off.
